New event will tackle tax to beat the odds
Craig Simpson, Head of Tax at Tenon in the Midlands, will examine the tax mitigation strategies available to businesses and their directors at the first of a new seminar series - ‘Beating the Odds’ - hosted by local independent insurance and financial adviser, The Wilson Organisation.
The seminar entitled ‘Beating the corporate taxman', takes place on 5th November at The Carriage Hall, Perkins Restaurant, Nottingham.
"We have experienced tax rises not seen for a generation," explains Annabel Prow, CEO of Wilsons. "From April 2010, income tax rates will hit 50 percent above £150,000, whilst small companies' Corporate Tax will increase to 22 percent. VAT returns to 17.5 percent in January next year and National Insurance is scheduled to rise by 0.5 percent from 2011.
"Faced with these unavoidable tax increases, businesses and directors need to learn what they can do and when, to ease their tax liabilities. Planning on dividends, salaries, bonus payments and pension contributions will be key, and as keynote speaker at this our first Beating the Odds event, Craig Simpson will educate and enlighten on realistic strategies that can be explored and implemented in anticipation of the up-and-coming changes to tax rates."
The seminar will also see Simon Hellier, Non-Executive Director of Wilsons, provide advice on the roles and responsibilities of directors to ensure an appreciation and understanding of corporate governance obligations.
The series continues on the 26th November, with a session on ‘Beating the pensions deadline', which will take a close look at the imminent changes to pensions and tax legislation and offer innovative ideas on maximising tax positions whilst creating financial independence through pension planning. In January 2010 the programme continues with a session ‘Beating the risk - gaining the reward' and concludes in February with ‘Beating the personal taxman', in time for the tax year end.
